Often the tidal waters of the Thames in central London can look more like the North Sea than a river, so racing the Head of the River course is always a challenge. Nevertheless, members of Wallingford Rowing Club took full advantage of good conditions this weekend to produce great results against strong opposition.

In the Fours Head the Women's Elite Lightweight 4x of Brianna Stubbs, Kathryn Twyman, Minna Jones-Walters and Caroline Greves won their category with a convincing 18s margin over the next lightweight crew. There were also good performances from the WIM1 4x and WIM1 4-.

In the Veterans’ Head on Sunday the Wallingford C4x achieved first place, winning the event overall in a time of 17:40 and beating many younger crews convincingly. The club’s F4- crew also had a great result, winning their category by a margin of over 30s despite some tricky steering. The WIM3 4x, a mainly novice crew, put in a strong performance finishing 3rd in their category and the IM3 4+ came 8th out of a large field.
